Mount Cook Moving & Storage Ltd
Established in 1989 by Peter & Sue Grant
During the earlier days the business operated as a Franchise for an International Moving Company. These days we keep it simple with a one van, one driver operation doing regular Inter-Island trips from our Oamaru home base. Peter is the driver, sales and operations manager, while Sue sorts the accounts.
Peter has been a Furniture Removals Packer / driver for over 45 years. From European Antiques transport to USA & Australian Long Haul Removals and now back to NZ-wide line haul.
MOVING
Express Van Service
(Inter-Island)
Our popular express van/trailer service offers affordable Inter Island furniture moves within a 1-3 day transit period. We use the latest Model Mercedes Sprinter jumbo van pulling a tandem furniture trailer.
This 190 hp van can SAFELY & LEGALLY carry a 30 m/3 furniture load at a max 8,000kg gross wt. A custom-built sleeper unit ensures added security for overnight stops. Back-loads are also catered for from time to time.

All the Way!!
All trips are undertaken by Peter personally. Goods are blanket wrapped, stowed on van & travel direct to your new destination without being off-loaded or subbed out to other carriers. We are in total control of your move from start to finish – kind of old school, but that’s the way we like it. Unless notified otherwise, all jobs are priced as driver only. i.e. Peter will stow & unload your goods with the customer expected to arrange an extra person to assist in the process. We can arrange extra staff/packers by request.

Average small 3 BR houselot Auckland – Lower south Island should start from around $4,800 Incl GST for a driver only, customer pack & assist load , 30 m/3 houselot.
Same prices apply both ways. Unless I am full both directions over the Cook Strait , I do not do the trip. Empty truck miles is costing the planet.
Minimum charge for small houselots is $ 550.00 Incl
ALL MOVES MUST BE BOOKED AT LEAST 6 – 8 WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

Service Areas
Mt Cook Moving & Storage Ltd cover all of New Zealand but specialise in ’out of the way‘ areas like Western Southland, Central Otago, West Coast, Gisborne, Waiheke Island & the Far North.
Insurance
Moving will always leave your contents exposed to a high level of risk. I encourage all customers to arrange their own transit cover for their move. Unless notified – otherwise all goods will be carried at ’Owner’s Risk‘.
Payment
Cash or direct debit or bank cheque only. Sorry we do not have mobile facilities to process credit card payments.
A GST invoice / receipt is available with every transaction.
STORAGE
Storage
Mt Cook removals has just purchased a block of land in Chelmer street, Oamaru. The area is zoned Commercial and will soon be up and running wtih an assortment of near new 20ft shipping containers and facility to store smaller part houselots.
Flood free and salt air free
Please be aware when booking storage in Oamaru, that the site you choose is clear from historical flooding zones and nowhere near the sea shore with our persistent N/E winds. Salt air gets into everything.
